About the Artist

Natalie Borghese is a Canadian glass artist and metalsmith whose work explores natural forms, the play of light and ideas about lightness, fragility and impermanence. Organic and tactile, her work is crafted by hand using traditional flameworking and metalsmithing techniques in her private studio in Ontario.

A practicing architect (retired) for 18 years, she worked on design and historic conservation projects in both Canada and the United States. During these years she also developed her skills as a metalsmith and jewellery designer, releasing her first limited edition collection of silver jewellery in 1999 (Washington, DC). In 2015, she discovered flameworking, and immediately set up her own private studio and began studying independently and attending flameworking workshops.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and Art History with Distinction (BA ‘87) and a Bachelor of Architecture with Distinction (BArch ‘92) from Carleton University. She has also studied life drawing, pottery (Ottawa, ON) and metalsmithing (Alexandria, VA; Columbia, NC).

Winner of the Glass Beadmakers of UK Newcomer Award (2017), her work has been featured in The Flow Magazine’s Nature Gallery (Spring 2018; 2019); The Flow Magazine’s Annual Gallery of Women in Glass (Winter 2018; 2020); and, the GBUK Flame Magazine’s Torchlight on Glass (January 2019).

Her signature ‘Apple Series’ is currently available at the Craft Ontario Shop + Gallery in Toronto.
